Recycling Today for a Better Tomorrow: An Allied Waste Services of Albany-Lebanon Philosophy
Today, more than ever, people understand the need to intelligently manage waste. For a growing percentage of the population, this means looking for more opportunities to reduce, reuse and recycle. Individuals in communities that we serve can recycle in a number of ways. In some cases, we offer recycling drop-off locations. In others, curbside home collection is available. Businesses can also find out about our commercial recycling capabilities available whether you have one location or hundreds.
Recycling--Material Recovery Facilities Last year, Allied Waste/Republic Services recycled more than 3.5 million tons of material. This metal, glass, plastic and paper is equal to 23 pound for every man, woman and child in the United States. Recycling the paper products alone is equivalent to saving 23 million trees.

Locally, Allied Waste recycled over 24,000 tons of material, representing over 48% of all waste generated. This material was collected at residences, businesses and at our recycling depots. We are proud of that number, but continue to look for efficient and innovative ways to reduce waste.
Recycling and Composting
Allied Waste is dedicated to the concept and practice of environmental preservation by:
- Constantly seeking new technologies and services that will not
only preserve our environment, but also provide more efficient and economical collection, recycling and disposal of waste materials.
- Less energy is required to create products from recycled materials than from virgin resources, both in the initial extraction of resources and in manufacturing new products. Recycling conserves valuable natural resources and saves materials that would otherwise be buried in landfills. For the environment, processing recyclables into new goods produces far less air, water and land pollution.
- Sustaining a healthier environment and preserving our finite resources for future generations is why. Allied Waste has made a commitment to recycling and composting. Please become a part of this growing endeavor.
Allied Waste is making recycling easier than ever. Here's how:
- The quality of our recycling is just as important as the quantity.
- Not only do we work to increase the amount of material being recycled in our area, but we also strive to keep our recyclable materials as free of contamination as possible, conserving resources and energy.
- We will provide you with a 65 gallon tan cart for commingled recycling and a gray bin for glass only. Just follow the examples below to correctly prepare your recyclables for pickup.

Glass and motor oil can not be recycled in the tan cart. Please recycle glass in your glass bin and place the bin at the curb. We recycle glass in a seperate bin because once it breaks, it is very difficult to separate from other materials. All curbside programs in Oregon that collect glass recycle it on the side. Glass is collected every other week, opposite yard debris, on your regular service day.
